Manchester City star Carlos Tévez was not happy with the treatment he received from his former teammate Garry Neville when he decided to leave the Old Trafford last season.

Neville criticized him saying Sir Alex Ferguson had been right to let the striker leave Old Trafford last summer. He made those criticisms when the two sides where about to meet in Carling Cup semi-final where Manchester City won by 2 goals to 1.

Manchester City goals were scored by Tevez while Neville scored one for Manchester United through penalty.

Tevez told Telegraph website that: "I was particularly disappointed with what Gary Neville had to say because he was not aware of the full details of my contract negotiations with Manchester United, because I kept them very much to myself.

"Sir Alex Ferguson knew that my contract was coming to an end and it was not until the last day that I was finally made an offer.

"It was too late by then. For Gary to make his comments was disrespectful."

The website also reported that Tevez also said he pays much respect to Neville during the whole time they played together and won trophies at Old Trafford.

"We were team-mates and we played alongside each other and won trophies together and I have a great respect for Gary," Tévez added.

"I thought the feeling was mutual. The goal celebration was made without any malice. It was in the passion of scoring in a Manchester derby.

"It was part of the banter of football and I'm sure he will give me something like that back if he scores at Old Trafford next week. I have respect for all the United players and the management and I believe I deserve their respect back."

The Argentinean International who has now 17 goals this season, said he was also disappointed with the way people criticized him in early days at Eastland.

"What people have to understand is that I started with a knee injury and I was playing with that," he said.

"I was not fit. I even flew the Argentinean team physio over at my own expense so that it would be treated by someone who knew me, alongside City's own specialist.

"So it's been particularly disappointing to hear the criticism I faced at the start of the season when people said I was not worth the money.. But I was not at full speed.

"I played because [Emmanuel] Adebayor was suspended and [Roque] Santa Cruz injured and [the then manager] Mark Hughes asked me to and I wanted to.

"Of course I did. But I could not play at my best and now I can do that and I am scoring. It was not until I played against West Ham (Sept 28), when I scored twice, that I was fit again. I had no pre-season either so I feel the criticism I faced was unfair.

"I've not got a bad record. I've won the Champions League, the Premier League, the Copa Libertadores, an Olympic gold medal and been South American footballer of the year three times (2003, 2004, 2005), more than Diego Maradona. Surely I deserve some respect?

"But if they do not want to give it to me then I will try to earn it on the pitch. I also don't think that a professional footballer should be criticizing a fellow professional in this way. It does not help the game."

Aston Villa are already through after they thrashed Black Burn Rovers six goals to four in the semifinal and are expected to play with the winner of weekend’s match between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford.
