I am Embarrassed and ashamed - says Christian Abbiati
By Marshall Dyton | Mar 11, 2010

Christian AbbiatiAC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati said he was embarrassed and ashamed after he saw his team being stunned 4-0 by Manchester United in the Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday.

Abbiati further said that injuries can not be an excuse for the last night’s result but Manchester United were in a good side..

"The absence of Alessandro Nesta tonight? We know that Sandro is a great champion and then during the game unfortunately (Daniele) Bonera has felt discomfort with a bad calf injury, but injuries should not be excuses for this defeat,” he was quoted in Tribal Football.

"Manchester United deserved qualification. We knew that tonight we needed to win 2-0, it was not easy. The boys of Alex Ferguson are great players and we were embarrassed by them.

"Personally, I'm a bit ashamed of the result, but you have to admit when a team plays better, as it was for Manchester tonight."

The Italians were beaten 3-2 in the first leg of the competition and were supposed to win by 2-0 margin to progress into the quarterfinals.
