Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neil has slammed John Terry for a reckless tackle he made to his England team-mate James Milner on Saturday at Wembley Stadium in FA Cup semifinal clash.
John Terry caught Milner on the calf with a high tackle in the Villa’s half before he was booked by a Referee Howard Webb after the break.
Milner was able to continue after treatment but O’Neil was still fumed with the referee for not sending off former England captain.
"James Milner is exceptionally lucky his career is intact. It should have been a straight red card,” he said according to The Sun.
"It could have been very serious. James is lucky to have got away with it. The fact his leg was in the air helped. I have spoken to the doctor who says he's a very lucky boy."
"Terry's 15 yards outside the box and going away from goal.
"It was a pointless challenge but he made it and therefore the consequences of it should have been a red card.
"It was an obvious decision. You didn't need four replays to see it."
Villa could have been awarded a penalty in the first half when Gabriel Agbonlahor was brought down by Mikel Obi inside the penalty yard box and the Villa mentor did not hold his words but to blast the referee.
"I am sitting here five weeks on talking about another major incident,” said the Irishman referring to the last month’s incident when Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic also fouled Agbonlahor in the opening minutes during Carling Cup final at the same venue.
"It is incontestable. Even the Chelsea players knew, you could tell by their reaction it was a penalty.
"The referee has chosen to ignore it because of the possible consequences.
"The referee bottled it against Manchester United and we have had the same today."
