It is another do or die game at Santiago Bernabeu in the Spanish capital as Real Madrid host European Champions, Barcelona on Saturday, April 10, 2010 in the Spanish La Liga clash.
Both teams are tying 77 points each but Madrid are on top with a goal difference though there are only seven games remaining and this game will determine who will cruise to the title.
Match Facts
Real Madrid have won 50 times in their 79 meetings since 1929, losing only 15 times. They will be without Pepe and Royston Drenthe but midfielder Alonso and Sergio Ramos are both set to return from suspension after missing Sunday’s 2-0 win at Racing Santander. The Brazilian starlet, Kaka who has not featured since Champions League last-16 tie with Lyon on March 10 is still on sideline.
Barcelona will again miss Zlatan Ibrahomivic due to calf problem and missed that Champions League devastating Arsenal in which Leonel Messi netted all four goals. France fullback Eric Abidal is also ruled out having suffered a thigh injury on Tuesday but central defender Gerald Pique is set to return after his European ban.
What they are saying…
Manuel Pellegrini: "We will go out for the victory,” he told reporters on Friday.
“A draw is always a bad result for my team, we have never gone out looking for a draw. We have picked up a lot of victories away from home and more at the Bernabeu, and this game is not going to be an exception.
“The League does not end tomorrow. There will still be 21 points in play and matches against difficult opponents. This is an important match, but whoever wins will make a big mistake if they think they have won LaLiga, and the same goes for whoever loses because there will be seven more matches to ply.”
Pep Guardiola: “If there were only threeor four games to go I would say it is almost decisive match, but when there are seven left afterwards it’s just so much-but it is very important [game],” he told reporters on Friday.
“It’s not a final, but we need to play as if it was one. It’s a game where the winner will strike a blow to the other.”
Players to watch
Lionel Messi, Barcelona: This player has made a impact in his club, he is currently world player and he scores in almost each game.He helped Barca to reach into the semifinals of the Champions League when he scored fours goals in their 4-1 victory over Arsenal last week.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Madrid: Despite his poor start at Bernabeu since he arrived from Manchester United in 2009, Ronaldo has been outstanding in Laliga especially with his brilliant strikes which rescues Madrid in many do or die games this season.
